Celestia is undoubtedly the single best free space simulator ever created. the very fact that it follows the free and open-source initiative is one of the reasons it has been so successful. not to mention its highly modifiable, with a thriving community of users that create high-quality add-ons that enhance the experience many many times compared to stock celestia, which i think we can all agree is a bit crap, except stock 1.7.0 which is beautiful and packed with content. additionally, celestia runs on quite literally every operating system, whether it be your favourite linux distro, plain old windows and macOS, the little-known BSD operating system family, the just as obscure amigaOS family, and even android and iOS! no matter what computer or phone you have, no matter how bad or good the processors perform, you wont be missing out on this wonderful program and its communityi would not recommend downloading it from softonic since they use an outdated version of celestia, and also havent updated the project's main site to the new URL. better to go to celestia.space and download the latest 1.6.2.2 version from there. alternatively, you could give the much much much better 1.7.0 beta version a try, it has better graphics and content updates, more bugfixes, and also a new Qt UI that will definitely work much better than the old win32 and GTK UIs that the person who wrote the softonic review was having troubles with: windows (READ THE AUTHOR'S POSTS CAREFULLY), macos, linux, android and iOS versions run 1.7.0 by default (screenshots on the play store and app store are outdated as of time of writing, the actual content in the program looks much better. they should be getting updated shortly, though)
Good but not great.. it would of been a good piece of software a few year's back but in this day and age, not so good. If i was you i would look elsewhere. (e.g. stellarium.) is a great piece of software. I would recommend it far more than this Pros: Looks very nice Cons: controls are horrible
The Space equivalent of Google Earth. Celestia offers breath-taking scenes of space and is incredibly useful when you need it. Pros: No internet required to use itExplore all of human-known spaceAccurate names and sizes Cons: large download
